Overview

In the Sport Nutrition Specialist program, you will be exposed to a variety of content related to nutrition and its relationship with human performance. The program will prepare you for successful completion of the NCSF-Sport Nutrition Specialist (SNS) Exam and will support an existing fitness related professional credential or allied health professional license. This course also includes a voucher which covers the fee of the exam.

You will learn about the energy-yielding nutrients such as carbohydrates, fat, and protein, as well as the importance of vitamins and minerals and nutrient timing. The physiological adaptations to exercise and how that relates to nutrition will also be covered. You can expect to develop a deeper understanding of how to optimize performance in athletes and the athletic population through proper nutritional strategies. 

What You'll Learn

In this program you will learn how to properly recommend nutrients to optimize body function and performance based on the latest research. You will learn to plan and monitor nutritional status for anabolic adaptations, effective fat loss, and body composition for health and sports performance as well as evaluate nutrient and supplementation requirements for human performance and function.

Upon completion of this program you will know:

  • Fuel Sources for Muscle and Exercise Metabolism
  • Gastric Emptying, Digestion, and Absorption
  • Carbohydrates, Fat, and Protein

Prerequisites

You must be 18 years or older to take the Sport Nutrition Specialist Exam. You can register for the Sport Nutrition Specialist Exam at any time with the NCSF. Once registered for the exam, you will be provided a unique eligibility code, which allows you to schedule an exam for a date, time, and location of your choice. You must meet at least one of the following requirements to be eligible to take the exam:

  • Hold a current NCSF certification, or
  • A current NCCA-accredited fitness professional certification, or
  • A college degree (Associate’s or higher), or
  • REPs Level 3 or higher credential (individuals outside the US and Canada)
