Backpacking 101

Backpacking allows us to enjoy areas of nature not available in any other way. Anyone can backpack, but backpacking efficiently takes a little practice and knowledge. If you are interested in learning how to backpack and enjoy seeing nature this class is perfect for you. In the first two meetings you learn how to select gear, proper hiking techniques such as how to use trekkiing poles, selecting a campsite and camp cooking. We'll put all this together and end with a 2-night, 3-day backpack. The exact location of the backpack will be decided as a group during the first/second class meeting.

This class will meet Monday, March 2 & 9 from 5:30PM - 7:30PM in Memorial Hall, Mississippi State University. The third class meeting will be a two-night, three-day backpacking trip March 13- 5 to a location (near Starkville) decided on by the class during the first two meetings.
