Frequently Asked Questions
What are CEUs?
The Continuing Education Unit (CEU) is a nationally recognized unit of measure for non-credit continuing education programs. It is used to document learning that differs from the traditional academic learning experience and has become vital as a means of determining the value of a learning experience in continuing education and training.
How are CEUs calculated?
One CEU is defined as ten (10) contact hours of participation in an organized continuing education experience. Fractions of units can also be awarded (5 hours = 0.5 units). Courses with less than 5 contact hours cannot be approved for CEU credits.
How much do CEUs cost?
Participants can register up to 2.0 CEUs for $20. Costs for awarding credits above 2.0 are based on the following sliding scale.
$25 for 2.1 to 2.5 CEUs
$30 for 2.6 to 3.0 CEUs
$35 for 3.1 to 3.5 CEUs
$45 for 4.1 to 4.5 CEUs
When will I receive my CEUs?
Certificates are issued two-weeks following the CEU registration period. Students can print their CEU certificates by logging in to their student account at: https://www.campusce.net/cemsstate/account/signin.aspx and selecting the certificate they would like to print.
It’s been two-weeks since my class, why have I not received my CEU certificate?
CEU certificates can only be awarded with proof of student participation. If the course instructor and/or sponsor of the course has not submitted participant verification paperwork to CCE within the two-week registration period, no certificates will be issued. We must receive participant verification paperwork directly from the course instructor or sponsor in order to issue certificates.
Does MSU offer any CEU approved courses?
The Center for Continuing Education partners with ed2go to offer hundreds of online instructor led professional development courses that are worth 2.4 CEUs. These self-paced courses open to everyone and are perfect for those needing CEUs to renew their license. New course sections start monthly. For more information about ed2go courses visit: http://www.ed2go.com/msstate.edu/
How can I be sure of quality programming?
Mississippi State University was accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools in 1981 to approve and issue CEU credits. All non-credit activities approved through MSU’s Center for Continuing Education for CEU credit must meet national established criteria set by the International Association for Continuing Education & Training (IACET). When a program is approved for CEUs by the Center for Continuing Education, you can be sure the program complies with IACET standards and will be accepted by other reputable organizations.
How long does MSU retain CEUs records?
The Center for Continuing Education maintains a 20 year registry of all CEU approved courses and participant certificates.
How do I print a copy of my CEU certificate?
To print your CEU certificate you must sign in to your existing CCE Student Account and go to “My Account”. Once in your account select “Course Listing” and “Print” next to the title of the course you would like a CEU certificate.
