Frequently Asked Questions
What are CEUs?
The Continuing Education Unit (CEU) is a nationally recognized unit of measure for non-credit continuing education programs. It is used to document learning that differs from the traditional academic learning experience and has become vital as a means of determining the value of a learning experience in continuing education and training.
How are CEUs calculated?
One CEU is defined as ten (10) contact hours of participation in an organized continuing education experience. Fractions of units can also be awarded (5 hours = 0.5 units). Courses with less than 5 contact hours cannot be approved for CEU credits.
When will I receive my CEUs?
Certificates are issued after the registration deadline. An email is sent to the email address associated with the student's account once their CEU certificate has been issued. This email will include instructions on how to print the certificate from the student's account. You can log in at http://myaccount.extension.msstate.edu/ to access your account.
It’s been two-weeks since my class, why have I not received my CEU certificate?
CEU certificates can only be awarded with proof of student participation. If the course instructor and/or sponsor of the course has not submitted participant verification paperwork to CCE within the two-week registration period, no certificates will be issued. We must receive participant verification paperwork directly from the course instructor or sponsor in order to issue certificates.
Does MSU offer any CEU approved courses?
The Center for Continuing Education offers hundreds of online instructor-led and self-paced teacher development courses. Courses are open to everyone and are perfect for those needing CEUs to renew their license. For more information about our CEU courses click here.
How can I be sure of quality programming?
Mississippi State University was accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools in 1981 to approve and issue CEU credits. All non-credit activities approved through MSU’s Center for Continuing Education for CEU credit must meet national established criteria set by the International Association for Continuing Education & Training (IACET). When a program is approved for CEUs by the Center for Continuing Education, you can be sure the program complies with IACET standards and will be accepted by other reputable organizations.
Will the Mississippi Department of Education accept CEUs issued by CCE?
Yes, the Center for Continuing Education is an approved CEU provider for the Mississippi Department of Education. You will need to submit the certificate issued by our office to the MDE for license renewal.
How do I print a copy of my CEU certificate?
To print your CEU certificate you must sign in to your account at http://myaccount.extension.msstate.edu/ Once you are logged in, click My Account then Certificates from the black menu on the left. Click View next the the title of the certificate you wish to view and a new tab will open with a PDF of your certificate. Please save this PDF for your records. I forgot to register for CEUs before the registration deadline, is it too late to get my CEUs?
If the registration deadline was August 2021 or later, please call (662) 325-1457 to register. To ensure that a late registration can be processed, it is recommended to call within 3 months of the registration deadline. Late registrations are processed at the CCE's discretion. There is a $10.00 CEU late fee automatically applied to all late registrations.
I registered for CEUs but didn't pay. Can I go back and pay later?
Carts expire after 30 minutes. If you have added an item to your cart and it is no longer there, you will just need to add it to your cart again and complete the check-out process. All payments will need to be processed before the registration deadline to avoid a late fee.
