Featured Instructors: Debra Lloyd and Norice Nash
Featured this month are our two Safety & Environmental Training instructors, Debra Lloyd and Norice Nash. Ms. Lloyd teachers Lead, Mold, and CPR/First Aid classes, while Mrs. Nash teaches classes in the Asebestos and OSHA programs. Both have been with the Center for Continuing Education for 7 years, and both enjoy interacting with their students the most.
"Participants come from all over the state, so it's important to engage them. Hands-on activities are great for getting their input..." said Ms. Lloyd. ,"It's also a very worthwhile program, because while the certification is usually mandatory for a student, recieving it from Mississippi State University makes it sound more formal, and it helps students to feel even greater about their acomplishment."
The hands-on activities are also a favorite of Mrs. Nash; one particular example is in an asbestos decontamination unit, where students have an opportunity to use what they've learned in a classroom setting and apply it to a more real-world situation. Taking the research that Extension performs to the people who need it is also a big plus.
When they're not teaching both Ms. Lloyd and Mrs. Nash enjoy spending time with their families. Mrs. Nash also likes to fish and paint, while Ms. Lloyd enjoys dancing and traveling.
"We're just happy to be a part of [the program], there's a sense of pride in what we're teaching–anytime we can help, it's the most rewarding thing."
