Featured Instructor: Davern Jones
Davern Jones is the Program Manager for the 21(D) On-site OSHA Consultation Program for the State of Mississippi, and values the impact his 23 years of work has on assisting, educating, and training Mississippi businesses and industries on safe work practices. He enjoys the development of alliances and trust with these groups the most, as those relationships allow opportunities for those groups to implement his recommendations to minimize workplace injuries and illness.
Jones also teaches the OSHA 10 and 30-hour Training courses for the Center for Continuing Education's Saftey & Environmental Training program, and enjoys the classroom setting.
"Anytime I’ve been able to explain a new OSHA regulation or a complex section of an existing standard in a way that provides understanding to the employer, it’s always a sense of fulfillment. You get these opportunities a lot with new companies and with novice safety personnel."
When he isn't teaching or consulting, Jones can often be found deep inside a book (John Grisham is a favorite), or with family and friends.
Jones has great advice for all educators: Never stop learning.
"When you’re not teaching you should be learning. Your students and/or clients are relying on you to provide the best and most current information, so class is always in session for the teacher."
